A two-month voyage through the Australian Coast is being halted following the death of an elderly lady who was stranded by the cruise liner on a isolated coastal location.

The elderly woman had been walking on the tropical location with shipmates from the vessel, but broke off from the party for a rest. The ship left without her and went back later that day after the ship staff became aware the woman was not present.

A major rescue mission located her remains the following day.

Investigative bodies are examining the event, alongside police and the state coroner.

Head of the shipping company said that travelers and crew on the ship were informed that the continuation of the voyage had been called off due to the "sad loss and earlier technical problems".

In a statement, he mentioned that guests would be issued a full refund, and said the company was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the travelers via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also issued an revised communication, and said they had "issued a order to the Captain" banning any further travelers from entering the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the vessel in Cairns upon its arrival.

The ship originally sailed from the Australian port on October 24th, and was just two days into the journey at the time of the 80-year-old's passing. Lizard Island was the opening port on the itinerary.
