The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Voice Anger About Sizing Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has revised its sizing categories for female and kids' apparel failing to inform all shoppers about the modification.
Social Media Response
Countless users and merchants have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.
The platform stated the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to examine their items and manually change the size if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Size Classification Changes
Previously, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the size labels have been reassigned - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Shopper Experiences
Frankie Bridger, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, said she had been left angered due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and Vinted sales have been crucial following partial earnings loss," she explained.
Marketplace Information
The app has more than 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: last year, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options following member complaints.
