The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
