The Hit Drama Announced for 7th Season on BBC
The acclaimed police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh season, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode series written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The last season concluded in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but official word only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers watch the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor described being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
