Salah Extends Regret to Squad, Reveals Curtis Jones
Jones has shared that the Egyptian forward apologised to the team in the wake of the controversy from his public comments.
The Incident
The striker was dropped from a key Champions League match after criticising the club and stating his connection to the head coach had deteriorated.
“He speaks for himself and he can say his own stuff,” the midfielder said. “He said sorry to the group and was like: ‘If I’ve affected anybody, I apologise.’”
The manager has previously declined to reveal on whether he was apologised to from the veteran striker.
Team Unity
Jones insisted that the team's response remained positive. “He was his usual self, his demeanour was positive and we all treated him normally,” he continued.
Jones also suggested that a teammate fighting for a place is a positive trait. “I get that there are specific approaches you can go about things,” he said. “However, if a player is content to just be on the bench, then I think that’s more of an issue.”
On-Field Response
Their results have stayed unbeaten in the games following the initial controversy. He feels the forward's comments were never meant to harm the team.
“If passion has boiled over, the source has been from a good place,” Jones concluded. “We’re past that now and we’re uniting strongly, performing and securing victories.”
