Citizens have come together across the country to remember 24 months since the Hamas-conducted offensive on 7 October 2023, as negotiations continued in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the conflict in Gaza.

The attack resulted in over 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the uniquely deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel reacted by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed over 67,000 people, as reported by the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its numbers are seen as trustworthy by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"The aggressive opponents have struck forcefully, but they have not broken us," Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on that day.

He also promised to "realize all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will not present a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Ceremonies Across Israel

The Israeli government postponed formal memorials until 16 October - after the conclusion of the festive season - but events still were held throughout the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the loved ones of Israelis killed in the Hamas assault was organized in the coastal city. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast across Israeli TV networks.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was held throughout the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

Simultaneously, both sides' representatives convened in the North African coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to examine the terms of the plan.

A high-ranking delegate familiar with the negotiations said that an evening round of negotiations started at 7 PM local time.

The official said the morning session ended without significant progress, amid differences over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not recommence fighting after the opening period of the arrangement.

He noted that the negotiations are "difficult and have not yet deliver any real breakthrough," but pointed out that intermediaries are making efforts to close the differences between the both parties.

Critical Points in Negotiations

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The trade of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for assistance deliveries
  • After-conflict administration of the territory

Citizen Feeling

In the city's Hostages Square earlier, young a woman - whose family member endured the attack on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were killed and many more were abducted by Hamas fighters - explained: "Nowhere feels like home anymore and until all the hostages return none of us will be secure."

"Once we see everybody home once more, we can relax once more. Then we can commence rebuild," she concluded.

In front of the prime minister's home in the capital, people assembled to express their support for the families of the hostages. Israel says 48 remain in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be alive.

Demonstrator a participant remarked: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement required for the captives to come back home. But we truly desire promises that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that about seventy percent of Israelis prefer the conflict to end in exchange for the release of the abducted.

Gaza Situation

At the area of the music event, mourners came together to honor the dead.

From that location, the noise of Israeli air strikes and shelling could be noticed just a brief space away in Gaza, where local people said the heavy Israeli attacks continued.

In the urban center, bombardments were reported in the morning of that day in the west side Tal al-Hawa, sector and locality districts and in the east side neighbourhood of that sector, as well the camp to the northwestern area.

"When the dusk arrives, the anxiety appears with it," relocated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was died by an Israeli bombing earlier, described.

"We are fearful of the bombings. Throughout the evening we are resting together, holding each other, particularly my smallest child who places his face on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we check the updates to see the situation. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be finalized and that the conflict will return to us."

Humanitarian Emergency

The medical facility in Gaza City reported it had received the bodies of several people by the midday, including a trio who died in an Israeli attack in the south part area.

Another medical facility in the southern urban center of that area indicated additional dead people had been transported. One of them was died by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get assistance to the south region, medics stated.

The region's health ministry said twenty-five of the {territ
