Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any damage is unclear and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the government.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.

It said missile fragments fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
