Fans Urge Arrest of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of Ariana Grande are demanding that a individual who jumped a fence and touched the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared clip shows the Australian man shoving aside photographers and rushing toward Grande while the performers proceeded down a yellow carpet surrounded by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being taken in", though official papers showed that he was due to attend court on the next day. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
History of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram profile contains clips of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney performance in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last year.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is obviously a legal violation," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user remarked.
Fans Show Disapproval Over the Star's Past Trauma
Numerous fans blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the finale of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote a further comment on Instagram.
Some supporters also criticised event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals demanded digital services to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande seemed startled when she was approached by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Hundreds of attendees had assembled in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore venue, including some who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-film adaptation of the acclaimed theatrical production Wicked, which centers on the unlikely friendship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The show itself is a adaptation of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a rosé glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful film of 2024 in the UK, and scored a dozen award recognitions, winning two for best costume and set decoration.
